Botswana Rhino Relocation & Reintroduction Project

(Okavango Delta, Botswana)

The Botswana Rhino Relocation & Reintroduction Project is a successful, collaborative conservation program that reintroduces both black and white rhinos into the Okavango Delta of Botswana. In a complex operation, rhinos are relocated from areas with high poaching rates to the protected safe haven of the Delta. Once a hotbed of poaching that left black rhino locally extinct and white rhino at only 19 individuals, Botswana now boasts one of the finest anti-poaching forces. The purpose of relocating them is to not only protect existing individuals, but also to create a healthy, stronghold population that will create a more robust future for rhinos as a whole.
