Cheetahs once ranged across the entire African continent, except for the Congo Basin, but today, cheetahs are found in only 23% of their historic range. The problem facing the cheetah is complex and multifaceted, but can largely be summed up into habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict and illegal wildlife trade. The Cheetah Conservation Fund has a set of integrated programs that address the multiple facets of their conservation. Alongside comprehensive studies on cheetah biology, ecology and habitat, CCF also raises livestock-guarding dogs, provides sustainability education for the community, and does habitat restoration. They have promoted the ‘Certified Wildlife Friendly’ product labelling to support environmentally sound farming and husbandry practices.
