Bushman and the Delta

Departs: Year round. This is a set departure from Windheok, Namibia every second Friday of 2007. Price does not include local payments of N$800 and $240 made direct on arrival.

Day 1

Etosha National Park, Namibia

Depart Windhoek with your guides at 8:00am. After stopping briefly at Otjiwarongo for fresh supplies you have lunch at the entrance to the Etosha National Park, Namibia's prime game viewing destination. After lunch you game drive to camp in Okaukeujo, and if time permits game drive before sunset. Dinner prepared by the guide and apprentice guide and the evening is spent around the campfire or at the floodlit waterhole by the camp which is often visited by endangered black rhinos coming to quench their thirst after sunset.

Camps consist of a combination of private and semi-private campsites. Tents are dome type. Ablution facilities are separate when available. All camping equipment including sleeping mats and pillows is provided, except sleeping bags. Fresh and tasty meals are prepared by the guide and apprentice guide with the help of participants.

Day 2

Etosha National Park, Namibia

Today you have early morning and late afternoon game drives seeking the many species of animals found in this huge park including elephant, lion, leopard, endangered cheetah, black and white rhino as well as many antelope and over 340 species of bird, plenty for all wildlife enthusiasts to enjoy. You spend the hottest part of the day at camp in Namutoni either by the waterhole or the swimming pool before heading to Etosha Pan, one of the translations meaning "Great, White Place" to marvel at the size of the pan that disappears into the horizon. Dinner is prepared by your guide and apprentice guide and the evening is spent around the campfire.

Days 3 & 4

Bushmanland, Namibia

Enjoy a short early morning game drive and return to camp for breakfast before traveling via Lake Otjikoto to Tsumeb for fresh supplies. A short lunch is taken at Hoba Meteorite - the world's largest meteorite and you continue through to Grootfontein to refuel before entering the Kalahari Desert. You arrive at camp in the Bushmanland mid afternoon and walk with a San tracker to collect bush foods experiencing how the traditional San collect veldt food, an often fascinating experience for westerners where we are able to ask questions of how they survive in today's modern world. This evening you can join the local community around the campfire for singing and dancing. Dinner prepared by guide and apprentice guide.

Day 4

Okavango Delta, Botswana

You have a very early start to travel via Tsumkwe and into the Kalahari Desert Botswana. The sandy track takes you through the heart of the Kalahari to the edge of the Okavango Delta. The last 13kms are 4x4 only and some pushing maybe required, but the jewel of the Kalahari waits at the end of the day and this wetland lies like an oasis in an otherwise harsh environment. Evening meal prepared by the guide and apprentice guide.

Guma Lagoon Camp is set in the northwest part of the Okavango Delta at one of the largest permanent lagoons in the water system. The camp is adjacent to Guma Island Lodge. This self-catering facility accommodates up to 8 campers in walk-in tents with beds and all linen provided but not towels. You stay in the area set aside for self erected tents. Separate ablution facilities, scullery and mess are available. Fresh and tasty meals are prepared by the guide and apprentice guide with the help of participants.

Day 5

Okavango Delta, Botswana

The next morning take only what you need - each guest can take only 1 small day pack. Depart early morning initially in a motor boat before transferring to mokoros (dug out canoes), you can relax while the polers push you through this beautiful and serene area enjoying the tranquility of the delta until you reach an island camp, your destination for the night. You'll have the opportunity to game walk and learn about this fragile and unique ecosystem. Tonight you sleep under a million stars with no facilities and evening meal prepared by the guide and apprentice guide.

Day 6

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Today you enjoy more game walks and mokoro trails before you return to the luxury of your camp early afternoon for hot showers and toilets. Evening meal prepared by the guide and apprentice guide.

Day 7

Caprivi Strip, Namibia

Today you have an early start to cross the border back into Namibia and on to Mahango Game Reserve. This little jewel of a game reserve is home to many unusual species such as roan and sable antelope, buffalo, large herds of elephant, hippo and many aquatic birds not found in many areas of Namibia. You leave the park and have lunch overlooking Popa Falls before continuing through the Caprivi Strip to Susuwe National Park. This is a wild park where you camp without fences and spend an exhilarating night listening to the night sounds of the animals and maybe get the chance to enjoy "close up" encounters. Evening meal prepared by the guide and apprentice guide.

Day 8

Depart

Enjoy breakfast and a short game drive before heading through to Katima Mulilo. This busy and bustling town is the last frontier of Namibia and you glimpse your first sight of the mighty Zambezi River. You cross the border into Zambia and have lunch at a scenic location along the roadside. You arrive in Livingstone mid afternoon. You will be transferred to your lodging or Livingstone Airport to meet your departure flight.
