Just south of India, there are about 200 inhabited islands with many private island resorts. Transportation between islands is on seaplanes or speedboats. The culture is predominantly Muslim, the tourism infrastructure is fairly developed, and the seafood is some of the best in the Indian Ocean.

The Maldives are famous for their over-the-water floating rooms where you get out of bed and simply jump into the azure waters that surround you. The sand is bleached white, the ocean calm, and the scuba diving is some of the best in the world.
