Bateleur Camp at Kichwa Tembo

This luxurious property is located in a central area of the Masai Mara and offers great game viewing. Having only nine tented rooms, this is the small, luxury sister property to the much larger Kitchwa Tembo located nearby.

As a part of the CC Africa portfolio, the atmosphere of this property is not as family-run feeling as some of our other favorites.

Bateleur Camp at Kichwa Tembo is situated below the location where Out of Africa's famous final scene was filmed. This romantic and totally private camp reflects the ambience of Kenyan safaris of the 1920s and 1930s.

Nestled in a lush riverine forest, the 9 tented suites epitomize classic elegance with polished wooden floors and en-suite bathrooms with glass-walled showers, twin hand-basins and a separate flush water closet. Each tent has a private deck overlooking the vast game filled plains of the Masai Mara, and a personal butler will ensure your every need is catered for.

Beautiful antiques adorn the comfortable sitting area and indoor/outdoor dining area, transporting you to the heyday of classic safaris. The camp also features a deep lap pool and a small African gift shop. Your private butler will serve you delicious Pan-African cuisine in the dining area, on the veranda or in a romantic setting under the stars. Bush breakfasts and candlelit dinners offer an unforgettable experience of the African bush.

Extensive activities at Bateleur include morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles and exhilarating night drives on the private concession, guided bush walks, Maasai community visits or spectacular sundowners with panoramic views across the Mara. You will be spoiled for choice. A hot air balloon safari (optional extra cost) is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that gives you a unique perspective of the Mara grasslands and its exceptional wildlife.
