Cederberg Wilderness Area, South Africa
Bushmans Kloof
As with most Relais & Chateaux members, this property is lovely. Bushmans Kloof is not a game lodge. It is a place to relax, canoe, enjoy the grounds on bikes and walking trails. The surrounding bushman art is a special feature and the main reason we recommend it to guests is for a varied experience of South Africa's rich history. — Mango's view
Immense open plains, deep ravines, spectacular waterfalls and prehistoric rock formations characterize this ecological oasis, nestled between the majestic mountains of the Cederberg and the vast plains of the Great Karoo. This beautiful region, once the hunting ground of the intrepid San, is home to an incredible array of wildlife and plant species. Waterfalls, natural rock pools and mountain landscapes all form part of the reserve, which is located at the foothills of the Cederberg Wilderness Area. Bushmans Kloof is home to over 130 rock art sites which date back some 10,000 years, creating one of the world's largest open-air art galleries. Trained guides conduct daily rock-art walks with interpretations that provide insight, and a deeper understanding of these rare archeological sites.Additional activities include mountain biking, nature walks, playing games and relaxing at camp or spending time in the spa. The spa has the following treatments available: skincare treatments, beauty salon services and spa body treatments. All rooms and suites have ensuite bathrooms with separate bath and shower, mini-bars, under-floor heating, ceiling fans and temperature control units, as well as their own private patios.
