Bwindi Lodge

This is a sweet little lodge located in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Recently renovated by Volcanoes Safaris, the location at the base of the park is prime for gorilla trekking.  — Mango's view

The Lodge offers an immersion into Uganda where gorillas, chimpanzees and birds can often be heard screeching near the river below. Guests at the Lodge are accommodated in 8 chalets or bandas. Each individual chalet has adobe walls, thatched roofs, and its own verandah with chairs and a table, overlooking the valley and the forest on the opposite side. All chalets provide excellent views. The rooms are comfortable with 2 twin beds, a vanity area, chairs and a coffee table. Five windows let in ample light with curtains for the evenings and privacy.

Each room has an ensuite shower and toilet that are of eco-friendly design to prevent water from being wasted and provide care for the local environment. The showers are of a large canvas bucket style with water provided by the lodge staff.

The thatched bar/dining area with open sides and a log fireplace provides a cozy and warm gathering area with excellent views of the forest. Fresh meals are prepared, combining the best of local cuisine and western tastes. The lodge is warm and welcoming where guests are well looked after by carefully trained staff, a place to sit back and relax on the open verandah after a hard day's gorilla trekking.

Each morning, guests with trekking permits depart in two groups of six, accompanied by two guides and four guards and head out in search of the mountain gorillas. These special animals are rare and gentle, like us yet so different. This can be humbling and thrilling at the same time. Gorilla tracking is an intense experience that can take all day. The guide will lead you through the gorilla's world, explaining aspects of their ecology and behavior along the way. Only 600 of these magnificent animals remain worldwide, and Bwindi is home to just over half of them. The variety and abundance of birds and butterflies only adds to the magic of this mystical forest.
