Grumeti Private Reserve, Tanzania
Faru Faru River Lodge
We have not gotten to Faru Faru yet and can't wait! It only opened in late 2006. This new property is on track to be the next 'elite' of lodges in Tanzania! Their partnership with Singita is promising. If your pocketbook will allow you to stay, you are sure to have an amazing experience! The rooms and lodge look stunning and the wildlife in the Grumeti corridor is said to be incredible! This is a great location for viewing the annual wildebeest migration in June and July as it makes its way towards the Masai Mara and November when they are on their return trip south. — Mango's view
Grumeti Reserve, home to the Faru Faru River Lodge is located adjacent to the western corridor of the Serengeti, bordering the national park, and encompasses 400,000 acres of unrivalled wilderness. The area forms part of the famous migratory route, which is traveled by hundreds of thousands of animals every year: Loping herds and topi mingle with hundreds of zebra, a pride of lion dozes unperturbed beneath an umbrella tree, while a herd of elephants wander slowly through the woodland.Faru Faru River Lodge is built on a gently sloping hill, overlooking a waterhole and the Grumeti River. It is built in the style of a classic East African safari camp, with the suites and lodge areas decorated as a throwback to the timeless Colonial era. Each of the 6 air conditioned suites feature a picture window and deck, with Swarovski spotting scope, from which guests can enjoy the rugged landscape, while at the same time, the luxurious comfort of their suite. The lodge area offers a spacious and perfectly equipped lounge and dining room, elevated viewing decks, heated plunge pool, spa and Colonial Trading Post. Walks from Faru Faru River Lodge along the Grumeti River, with its unrivalled spectrum of fauna and flora, are an unforgettable experience. Other activities available are day or night game drives, archery, lawn croquet, mountain biking. Hot air ballooning is optional. Another highlight is the Equestrian Center situated adjacent to Sasakwa Lodge, and is home to sixteen horses and a mix of polo ponies. The Center includes a lunging arena, fenced paddock, and a walled 2.7 km riding track, which can also be used for walking and jogging. More experienced riders can enjoy out rides onto the Serengeti plains. Tack is English style, and guests have the choice of either English or Western saddles. All horse activities are led by qualified professional horse guides. In the dry season, after the great herds have departed for greener pastures in the north, the Grumeti draws in large concentrations of resident wildlife. Elephant, cape buffalo, giraffe, zebra, gazelle, impala and topi all seek life-sustaining water from the river. Even in places where the river runs dry, water flows just beneath the sand and many species dig to find it. Still others congregate around the remaining pools of the river. Because the animals gather here all through the year, Faru Faru offers a constantly changing and completely private wildlife spectacle.
