Grumeti River Camp

This is a stylish tented camp and a smaller option than the nearby Kirawira. During the months of May, June and July this is a great area of the Serengeti for viewing the annual wildebeest migration.  — Mango's view

In the western corridor of Serengeti National Park, the Grumeti River flows where wildebeest plunge through the waters, running the gauntlet of gigantic crocodile, on their annual migration. At Grumeti River Camp, hippo greet you through the watery carpet of lilies and the spectacular pied coats of Colobus monkeys flash through the bird-filled reverie trees. Even at night, the wild pulse of Africa and its wildlife is mesmerizing when the nocturnal orchestra of owls, bats and galagos is punctuated by the primeval sounds of lion and hyena.The public areas of this intimate safari camp include an open-air covered dining area, a lounge area and domed bar. The domed bar is perfect for sundowners overlooking the river. A secluded sheltered boma ensures star studded romantic dinners. The camp also has a swimming pool and leisure deck - both perched on the banks of the river where guests can view abundant pools of hippo at play. A curio shop and gallery is located near the reception area.

The ragged thatch canopy lends coolness and solidity to these fantastical safari tents while still affording the thrill of the tented safari after retiring at the end of a starlit banquet, where stories were shared of the day's game sightings and guests' wide-eyed experience of the exhilaration of wild Africa. The camp offers delicious Pan-African cuisine - all meals at Grumeti are prepared on traditional "jikos" (fires) and stone ovens. Private dinners may be arranged for special occasions.

The abundance of African wildlife is breathtaking. On safari, guests can view zebra, eland and giraffe as well as some of the highest densities of cheetah in Africa, huge prides of lion and solitary leopard.
