Jack's Camp

A visit to the Makgadikgadi Pans is a completely different and quality experience to the wetland wilderness of Northern Botswana. Jack's has developed a reputation for being one of the most captivating experiences in Africa. Walking with meercats during dry months and witnessing the annual migration of zebra in the wet season are unique highlights of this area.

The wet season can be hot and buggy. The dry season cold. Things happen slowly. This place is not for everyone, but it is really special.

Bushmen have inhabited this desert-like area for thousands of years. Its name comes from the Tswana word Kgalagadi, which translates into "the great thirst."

Jack's Camp is the vision of the late Jack Bousfield while on a trapping expedition in the 1960's. The choice of such striking locale owed much to his original taste for the savage beauty of a forgotten Africa. The Makgadikgadi Pans are the remnants of the once great Lake Makgadikgadi: 80,000 square km in extent, and up to 30 meters deep, this was the largest inland sea in Africa. This area has been portrayed, as "it's a place that shifts your axis forever."

Jack's Camp, located on a private concession, provides you with 8 authentic, roomy tents. These tents are made in a traditional, 40's style, and give guests a fantastic view of the wilderness. Located near the edge of the Kalahari saltpans, you are surrounded by the inhabiting creatures of the desert.

During your time at Jacks' Camp, you can spend your days exploring the wilderness and the desert pans using 4WD quad bikes, game walks with Bushman trackers, night drivers and more.
