Khwai River Lodge

Khwai River Lodge is one of the three Orient Express Lodges in Botswana. It's great for those who do not do well in the heat since rooms have air conditioning, which is rare in Botswana. The lodges are run a bit more like a hotel than a small camp so the atmosphere is lacking and services divided. Though, Khwai can be a great option for large families or groups.

Sello Motletle, has been a friendly face at Khwai for over 30 years. Now the general manager and camp environmentalist, he is kind enough to guide the occasional Mango client on safari. This is a special treat.

Abounding wildlife and the 5-star service of the Khwai River Lodge make this a favorite stop for everyone. You will enjoy exploring the grounds around this enchanting camp. Khwai is one of the oldest and most prestigious camps in Botswana. It has been hosting famous visitors since the 1960's.

Each tent has en-suite facilities, a mosquito net canopy and is fitted with modern conveniences, including air conditioning, electric heater and 24 hour DC lighting. The public areas consist of a thatched dining room, bar and lounge with an open fireplace. Outside there is a second fireplace alongside the teak viewing deck, a heated swimming pool and a secluded viewing platform which overlooks the river.

You can relax by the pool, sipping champagne or iced tea watching the elephants play in the Khwai River. Elephant, hippo, baboon and everyone else walk right through camp at their leisure. You will struggle to leave camp and then be overwhelmed by the wildlife you experience once you pull out each morning and afternoon on your game drives. You will see all the plains game: zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, impala, the rare red lechwe, and the predators that are never too far off including lion, leopard, hyena, wild dogs and cheetah.
