Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Klein's Camp
This is a lovely property and easily the most comfortable accommodation in this area of the Serengeti. Located just outside the park in the Loliondo Controlled Area, guests get the added bonus of night game drives, guided walks and Masai village visits. The location can be perfect for viewing the annual wildebeest migration in October/November, but there is excellent resident game year round. Klein's makes a nice second stop in the Serengeti after you have spent a few days in tented camp. — Mango's view
On the northeastern border of Serengeti National Park is a 10,000 hectare private concession, land that, historically, was given to a park warden by the Maasai as thanks for his dedication. Within this concession, perched on the edge of the Kuka Hills, affording breathtaking views is Klein's Camp.Ten intimate cottages of local rock and thatch each have ensuite shower, twin hand basins and water closet. They also include a private terrace overlooking the valley below. The rooms have rich wooden floors and the light colored fabrics make the interiors cool and serene. The dining room boasts a large open fireplace and a short walk from there is the large bar/lounge area, which has a central fireplace and is beautifully furnished. Both these areas have a sweeping view of the valley and its surrounding hills. Each meal is a culinary celebration. Dinners are served in the main dining area, which is graced by a large open fireplace or in an enchanting bush clearing.A swimming pool with leisure deck is tucked into the hillside. A curio shop stocked with locally made Maasai craft can be found near the reception area. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in open game viewing vehicles with Maasai trackers. The afternoon game drives, which continue after sunset with the aid of a spotlight, give the opportunity of meeting up with nocturnal predators. Afternoon guided walks along the quartzite hills allow one to marvel at the scenery while sipping sundowners at the crest of the hill before returning to the comforts of the camp.
