Lewa Downs Safari Camp

This is a great value option for those wanting to experience comfortable tented camping in a well known wildlife conservancy. This is a great place to see rhino! In addition to day and night game drives and guided walks, guests can opt for horseback safaris and educational visits to the conservancy.  — Mango's view

Lewa Downs is situated against the dramatic backdrop of the snow-covered massif of Mt Kenya and with the magnificent Northern Frontier District stretching out to the North. Formerly a working cattle ranch, it is now the headquarters of one of Kenya's major nonprofit wildlife conservancies. It has been in the Craig family since 1924. Three generations of the family continue to be involved in daily operations on Lewa.

Set on the 45,000 acre privately owned Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, the Safari Camp offers all the comforts of home. Steamy hot showers, flush toilets, warm comfy beds at the end of a long day's game viewing. All guests stay in luxury tented accommodation, ten doubles and two triples. The food is wholesome, ranch style and organically grown.

With wildlife densities as high as anywhere in Africa, it is possible to see all of Africa's Big Five on Lewa and the conservancy provides a refuge for several endangered species. Conservation efforts are focused on the endangered species found locally: rhino, Grevy's zebra and Sitatunga.

Activities include day and night game drives in open 4-wheel vehicles, game viewing on horseback, camels and escorted bush walks. Educational talks on the operation of the conservancy, visits to pre-historic archaeological sites and game blinds are also available.

Includes: All meals, soft drinks, beer & house wine, laundry & activities (game drives, guided walks, educational visits)
