Mala Mala Main Camp

The guiding feels a bit military in style and this can detract from the otherwise lush environment. The common area feels like a hunting camp with stuffed heads everywhere. This colonial air can be a turn off to some.

Main Camp is really tired and there is rumor of it being completely rebuilt in the near future.

Mala Mala is located in the game-rich Sabi Sands Reserve, adjacent to the Kruger National Park and offers exceptional "Big Five" game viewing and photographic safaris. Guests can enjoy sunrise and sunset game drives or bush walks, accompanied by experienced game rangers and trackers, in an area renowned for its exceptional game viewing.

The thatched air conditioned bungalows are spacious and have his and hers ensuite bathrooms. Other facilities include heated towel racks, mini-bars, hair dryers, insect proof screens and PABX telephone/intercoms. Guests can relax in the Buffalo Deck lounge where displays of bronzes, artworks and animal trophies capture the essence of Africa.

Dinner, where one may enjoy venison specialties and haute bush cuisine is served in the grand old African manner, under the stars in a reed enclosed boma, a Mala Mala tradition for over 60 years. Seated around a log fire, under the starry African sky, enjoying superb food and outstanding South African wines is yet another highlight of the Mala Mala experience.

The lounge leads onto a large wooden deck that provides elevated views of animals watering in the Sand River. There is a swimming pool, room service, a complimentary laundry service, wine cellar, bush gym, bar and safari boutique at Main Camp.
