Motsentsela Tree Lodge

We rarely have people overnight in Maun. But when they do, this is the nicest place to stay in town.  — Mango's view

Motsentsela Tree Lodge is situated on a small game farm on the outskirts of Maun - the perfect place to start or end your safari holiday in Botswana. When it comes to places to stay in Maun, why stay at a hotel when you can stay at a hotel at home? The "Tree Lodge," as it is affectionately known, is without doubt the best and most interesting accommodation in Maun. It is not only a one night stay, but the lodge owners are proud of the fact that we get so much repeat business and that some regulars stay for many days at a time.

The lodge and its staff will ensure that a day in Maun is not a day wasted, rather one of the highlights of your safari holiday to Botswana. Motsentsela Tree Lodge gets its name from the local word for a birdplum tree. This magnificent wild fruit tree shades the lodge deck under which our afternoon tea is served.

Seven specially designed en-suite tents on teak decks sit under a canopy of indigenous trees, sited in such a way as to ensure privacy and to heighten the feeling of being in the remote African bush. Each luxurious tent has twin beds, overhead fan and magnificent slipper bath. For those who want to get closer to nature, each tent has its very own outdoor shower. The lodge also has two new thatched honeymoon chalets, very private, tastefully furnished and superbly comfortable. Large sunken baths and an outside shower with a view into the woods will make your stay a memorable one.

It's not just about the great accommodation and warm hospitality. Staying at the Tree Lodge also lets you stretch your legs after your long flight or overland safari. The lodge has its own swimming pool complete with sun loungers or for the more adventurous they have three marked walking trails set out for guests to explore at their own pace and time.

For those guests staying for more then one night there are many other activities to choose from. Ideally these should be booked beforehand, at which time the current price will be quoted.

Activities include scenic flights over the Okavango Delta, in either a fixed wing plane or helicopter. These flights can be booked on a per hour basis. Guests can also enjoy horseback riding. The Lodge can arrange this either on the farm or along the river. Riders must be reasonably experienced - no beginners can be accommodated. Many people call a cultural village tour one of their safari highlights. Guests can visit on a morning tour of a local village. See how the locals live, what they eat and how it is prepared. Listen to their stories and share a window into their lives.
