Liwonde National Park, Malawi
Mvuu Wilderness Lodge
Mvuu Wilderness Lodge offers guests a stay in the remote and special Liwonde National Park. This park is emerging as one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in Malawi. We find this location very special as it exudes the personality of Malawi. — Mango's view
The Mvuu Wilderness Lodge is situated along the banks of the Shire River in Liwonde National Park, Malawi's premier wildlife reserve. Mvuu offers exclusive accommodation in spacious, luxurious tents. There are five tents, each with an en-suite bathroom and a private veranda raised over the lagoon, ensuring prime and discreet wildlife viewing.
Lodge facilities include a dining room, pub and lounge area, and a pool. Activities include boating, game drives (morning, afternoon and evening), nature walks and birding. An excellent diversity of animals - including large numbers of elephant and sable antelope, hippo, impala and waterbuck - can be seen in the area.
A highlight is the superb river cruises where guests may get close to hippos, crocodiles and wonderful birdlife. There is a black rhino re-introduction program and it is possible (with special permission) to visit the Rhino sanctuary in the park.
Huge crocodiles, leopard and serval are also fairly common. Birds are prolific, especially along the Shire River, where the African fish eagle and the Pel's fishing owl are frequently sighted, as well as Böhm's bee-eater, white backed night heron and a host of local "specials".
