Namutoni Rest Camp
This is a government run public rest camp facility for the east side of Etosha National Park. There is a restaurant with a nightly buffet, a swimming pool and a flood light lit watering hole. Your evening is sure to be eventful sitting in the natural theater of Africa. — Mango's view
Namutoni Rest Camp is situated on the eastern edge of the pan, and centers around a beautiful old fort in an area dotted with graceful Makalani palms. It dates back to a German police post, built before the turn of the century.
Accommodation ranges from camping to self-catering basic rooms in the fort. There is a restaurant, swimming pool and small market on the grounds. Each luxury flat has 4 beds with 2 rooms, a fridge, stove, air-conditioning, bathroom, bedding and towels.
Namutoni has a waterhole, which is floodlit at night, giving you an opportunity to see some of the shy, nocturnal wildlife. The animals appear to be oblivious of the resort - unaware of the bright lights or the people sitting on benches just behind the low rock wall. The light doesn't penetrate into the surrounding bush. It creates something of a stage - with the water at its center - focusing the attention on the animals that come to drink. During the dry season, you're bound to see something of interest by just sitting there for a few hours in the evening.
