MANGO AFRICAN SAFARIS

Ngong House

Owner run and operated, this lodge has a long time reputation in the safari industry. The rooms are gorgeous and built into the trees and the location is in the Karen district of Nairobi, close to the Giraffe Manor and Karen Blixen Museum.

Paying 5 star prices for a hotel in Nairobi puts this in competition with Giraffe Manor. We suggest you spend your money in the bush.

Ngong House is a private home stay situated in the Karen neighborhood in Nairobi, near the Ngong Hills, just a few minutes away from the house where Karen Blixen once had her coffee farm.

Ngong House is a unique experience. Although you will be staying in tree houses, you will enjoy a very high degree of luxury. Four poster beds, crisp linen and exquisite, gourmet food are just the beginning. The main house and each tree house have fully stocked bars.

Built entirely from wood, the tree houses are on two levels with a bedroom area upstairs and a living area on the lower floor. They are raised 15 ft from the ground to gain an uninterrupted view of the Ngong Hills over unspoiled bush. The talents of regional artists and artisans add many of the finishing touches, such as hand woven rugs, bedcovers, lamps and stained glass. Large four poster beds grace the upper-level bedroom area. On the lower level there is a sitting area and a dining table. Each tree house represents the ultimate in exclusive accommodation. The sitting room is centered around a fireplace with comfortable sofas and chairs in which to relax. At the back of the house is a spacious bathroom with a shower and twin sinks. The front of the tree house is given over to glass and a verandah. Here you can eat, sleep, sunbathe or just enjoy the view.

Ngong House has a reputation of serving refined food prepared with local ingredients such as game meat, fresh lake fish, seafood flown in from the Indian Ocean, all prepared with a large variety of fresh vegetables, in tasty yet healthy ways. The Kenyan chefs have been specially trained by visiting chefs from Belgium. Lunch is served in the garden under one of the many indigenous trees. Dinner is served in a half open thatched rondavel with a huge fireplace and plenty of candles, creating this unique dinner atmosphere only found at Ngong House.

Ngong House ideally situated to visit many of Kenya's best attractions: Nairobi National Park, Karen Blixen Museum, wonderful golf courses and the exciting market in downtown Nairobi. Nature walks are a must, especially to visit the Giraffe Center (home of the endangered Rothschild Giraffe), a twenty minute walk from Ngong House.
