Samburu National Reserve, Kenya
Samburu Intrepids
A recent refurbishment helped greatly. This property offers good value for those wanting to experience the unusual species of wildlife that make their home in Samburu.
While the location is smack dab in the center of the park and the staff is genuine, this is a larger property with many tents and buffet style meals.

Mango's view
Situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the arid heart of Samburu National Reserve, Samburu Intrepids looks out over riverbanks where herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra come daily to drink - together with the rarer 'northern species' of reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and long-necked gerenuk antelope.
Samburu Intrepids will show you this dramatic wilderness from a world of fascinating perspectives: through stirring early morning game drives, walking safaris with skilled Samburu guides, sedate camel rides, and raft trips when the river is high. Our acclaimed Adventurers' Club offers a uniquely educational safari for children of all ages, under the expert guidance of one of Kenya's most famous Samburu guides, Tom Lmakiya Lesarge.
The luxurious tented camp offers 27 modern tents with a private view over the wildlife-rich riverbanks. The tents have soft four-poster beds, mahogany closets and desks, and ensuite bathrooms with steaming hot showers. The bathrooms also offer twin washbasins, flush toilets, and sockets for shavers and battery charging. The tented camp roofing is all palm-thatched, and is raised on stilts to catch the cooling breeze blowing off the river. The occasional visits from the elephants and crocodiles below the decks will make your stay most memorable.
Samburu National Reserve is known for wildlife species not found in any other Kenyan parks. The reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, gerenuk and Beisa oryx are exclusive to Samburu. Samburu is well known as the best place in Kenya to look for leopard. There is no shortage of birdlife with an abundance of over 400 species.
