Okavango Delta, Botswana
Sandibe Safari Lodge
Sandibe is very stylish and has great game viewing. It can be slightly disappointing at times in that the operation and management seem to lack the charm that some other camps exude. — Mango's view
Sandibe Safari Lodge is set on a permanent channel of the magnificent Okavango Delta, adjacent to the game-rich Moremi Wildlife Reserve on a 270 square kilometer (104 square mile) private concession.
The beautiful thatched lodge nestles between permanent water and grass-swept plains and was built with a commitment to "treading lightly on the earth." The result is organic architecture that blends seamlessly with one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Africa. Sandibe is surrounded by an abundant array of wildlife and throughout the year, guests are enchanted by the changing moods of the Delta. Through exhilarating game-drives in open 4 x 4 safari vehicles and interpretive bush walks, Conservation Corporation Africa's professional guides share the wonder of this wetland wilderness.
Surrounded by forest, each of just 8 deluxe thatched cottages is positioned to capture the presence of special trees and natural features such as a vast termite mound, a river inlet or an age-old elephant crossing point. The cottages have ensuite bathrooms, open showers and private decks. The elevated game-viewing decks of each cottage overlook the Santantebi River. The cottages are styled in a fusion of ochres and tactile textures, with airy screen walls opening onto exceptional views of the Okavango Delta wetlands and savannah. The central dining and sitting area is tucked under a soaring canopy of trees.
After your evening game-drive, enjoy a delicious al fresco banquet of Pan- African cuisine in the candelabra-illuminated, low-walled half boma (enclosed reeded area) and a custom-designed charcoal-cooled wine cellar. This is truly food for the soul; this mélange of traditional African recipes is enhanced by Africa's famous spices - saffron, vanilla, cumin and nutmeg.
At Sandibe Safari Lodge, the activities are endless. Guided day and night game drives in open Land Rovers allow you to experience both the timeless delight of bird-watching and the awesome sight of great predator kills. Guests also enjoy interpretive bush walks in the care of a local San (Bushman) guide. In addition to the usual river cruise, you can go on a mokoro (dugout canoe) trip poled by an experienced guide, who shares his knowledge of the environment.
