Livingstone, Zambia The River Club
The rooms are lovely and open air. The environment has the feeling of an 'English military retreat' complete with croquet lawn and the occasional bugle wake-up serenade by Peter, the property owner. This clump of properties, Tongabezi, Sussi & Chuma and River Club are located about 25 minutes outside of town. For some, this is great since the properties are smaller and removed from the hubbub of town. For others, this is a daily hassle to get to the sites and activities of the area. — Mango's view
The River Club is situated on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, 18 km upstream from Victoria Falls. The camp has a distinct Edwardian flavor, and guests here enjoy the sights and sounds of Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River in a peaceful and tranquil setting away from the crowds. Ten luxury, thatched chalets overlook the Zambezi River, and have ensuite facilities including a bath, shower, toilet and basin. All the rooms have fans. The rooms are all completely open in the front giving guests the best possible views of the Zambezi. The main dining room and lounge also have an interesting library. The Victoria Falls is one of the 7 Wonders of the World and is arguably the greatest waterfall in the world. Daily trips to the falls are a highlight. Boating to the Zambezi River's islands provides relaxed afternoon activities, and fishing and sundowner trips are offered. The Zambezi National Park is located just across the river, and elephants can be seen on the river bank. A rich bird life is found in the area. Hippo are regularly sighted (and heard) along the river's edge. Although the River Club is not a game lodge, elephants can often be seen in the Zambezi National Park opposite and hippo are regularly seen and heard. There is rich bird life in the area, including several rarer species such as the African Finfoot, the Half Collared Kingfisher, the African Skimmer and the Collared Palm Thrush. For bird lovers, there are nature trails around the lodge, boat cruises and island walks. Tiger fishing is an unforgettable challenge for keen fishermen, particularly during the warmer months. There are various varieties of bream that are also a good catch. For the more sporting, try catching them on fly!Enjoy your days at leisure for many optional activities including soaring above the falls in a microlite aircraft, rafting the mighty Zambezi River, or golfing where baboon and warthog have free run of the fairways. You can choose to take a sunset cruise before dinner one night on the upper Zambezi River.
