Climbing Mount Meru starts when you are met by your mountain guide at your overnight accommodations. You then drive to the Momella Gate at Arusha National Park where you meet your support crew, have an early lunch, and start the climb to Miriakamba, for your first overnight on the mountain. To get to this camp you take a 4WD drive track which allows you to soak in the biological richness of the forested lower slopes, see the magnificent arched fig trees.  Along the way you may spot dik dik, baboons, giraffe, and other retiring creatures of the forest.

Your second day takes you through a grassy pastoral landscape before entering the forest. The guides will remind you to keep your pace slow to help you adjust to the altitude. You eventually exit the forest and enter the alpine landscape where you spend the night at Saddle Huts.

The final day starts with an early morning and a night ascend to reach the summit at sunrise. After crossing the saddle you make it to the lip of the Meru Crater.  Following the rocky crater rim, you will see Meru Summit and the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks on Kilimanjaro. Finally you celebrate at the summit and admire the views as far as Kenya. Revel in your achievement as you descend to the Saddle Huts, where you will have a well-deserved rest and lunch. The afternoon descent takes you past Miriakamba Huts, down the direct trail to the Momella Gate, and finally to Mbahe Village.
