Situated in Clanwilliam, 220km from Cape Town, this charming guest house is the ideal place from where to explore the village, the rugged beauty of the Cederberg or the Atlantic Coast at Lamberts Bay, 60 km to the west. Dating back to 1810, this historic thatch-roofed house is one of the two oldest surviving buildings in Clanwilliam and offers visitors an old-world elegance and charm. The house is within walking distance to shops and restaurants, the museum and tourist office. Set in a beautiful, well-maintained garden overlooked by mountains, the property has an atmosphere of restful tranquility. Early morning and evening horses and guinea fowl can be seen frolicking in the paddock, studded with huge pecan trees, below the house.
There are 5 double rooms. All en-suite, air-conditioned / heated. Well furnished with Cape Dutch antiques. Four look out over the pooldeck, towards the paddocks with the mountains as a backdrop. The fifth has a secluded entrance and garden, with access to the pool area. All rooms have mini fridges, tea/coffee facilities, hairdryers. Swimming towels are provided. Lovely old oil lamps provide a romantic touch. Dining room has a lovely old yellowwood table where breakfast is served. Breakfast can also be enjoyed outside with the fishpond burbling away. Breakfast is substantial – fruit juices, fruit platter, yoghurt selection, cereal selection, cheese board, bread selection, home made jams, coffee and large variety of tea.
