Ithumba Camp is a luxury safari camp located in the Tsavo East National Park. Situated between bush and acacia trees, the private Ithumba Camp belongs to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and primarily reserved for donors. As a donor, guests can tour the elephant orphans in the nearby Ithumba station two times a day where they can even enjoy a midday mud-bath and feeding. Ithumba is where you can appreciate the great big skies, the star-studded nights and the rich array of fascinating species inhabiting this remote and wild habitat. Ithumba Camp was once a designated campsite of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) before the DSWT was granted permission to create the current camp.
The camp was built as a conservation initiative to support the KWS in protecting and conserving the Northern Area of Tsavo East. A small portion of the camp’s accommodation fees are reserved for the camp’s running and maintenance costs, while the rest of the funds go directly to the KWS for conservation initiatives.
With its cool Galana stone floors and beautiful thatched roofs, this camp consists of a comfortable mess-building, including an open-plan dining and sitting room. The camp offers four en-suite safari style canvas tents under thatched roofs with rustic rock bathrooms, flush toilets and hot water showers under the stars.
