Selous Impala Camp is situated on a wooded stretch of the stunning Rufiji River in Selous NR. The camp is simply, though stylishly, designed with a breezy lounge and dining area which sits on spacious wooden decking and is open to the spectacular views of the river. It is a wonderful place to sit and watch game come down to the water to drink. There are plenty of lounge chairs, all made of solid carved wood with woven seats and backs made of natural fiber.
The bar area is located across a short walkway to the right of the dining area. High chairs stand against a small bar made from an old mokoros (traditional dugout canoe fishing boats) while a few comfortable sofas with beautiful rustic-colored cushions line the edge. Extending further still from the bar area guests can enjoy an evening drink around the camp fire whilst relaxing on canvas directors chairs.
The camp has 8 private Meru-style tents which are raised high up on wooden platforms. Each room is equipped with luxurious furniture, shower, WC, dressing area and spacious verandah. These are set amidst Borassa Palms and Tamarind trees and give superb views of the Rufiji River and its wildlife. When walking to and from your room at night you are escorted by Maasai Askari guards as the camp is not fenced and wildlife does occasionally pass through.
Safari activities at Impala Camp include game drives in open sided 4WD's, boat safaris along the Rufiji River and into the nearby lakes and also walking safaris. You can also head out onto the river for some fishing, and the more adventurous might try a night or two fly-camping in bush. You will always be accompanied by a camp guide who has a good knowledge of the game found in the area. For some relaxation between safari activities, guests can enjoy a swim in the pool whilst looking out over the river.
