The Shira Approach up Mt. Kilimanjaro is a world-famous route that offers both breath-taking scenery and high success rates for reaching the summit. It takes approximately eight days, giving plenty of time to ascend safely and comfortably. Journey through the diverse ecological zones that terrace the 19,341 feet of Kilimanjaro's height. You start out in the lush rainforests dotted with coffee farms, then break out into heather covered hills. Next is the moorlands before traversing to the great saddle of the alpine desert. All along these ecological zones you will experience the specific climates that have given rise the to unique flora and fauna that inhabit the slopes of Kilimanjaro. The final ecological zone, aptly called the Arctic Zone, offers lunar landscapes, impressive views, and bizzare volcanic formations. After reaching the summit, you can take in the sunrise like never before. The descent is much faster, taking only a few days. Once back through the rainforest, you will enjoy a celebratory lunch to say good-bye to your fellow trekkers and your trusty porters.
