Serian’s Serengeti is a mobile camp, and from mid-December to May, it is set up on the southernmost extreme of the Serengeti’s short grass plains: prime position to spectate the wildebeest birthing season. Dramatic savannah storms sweep in nourishment and new life, and an innate primordial urge pulls the wildebeest to the site of their origins to reproduce. The plains literally come to life for the birthing season. Millions of gnus and zebra dominate the landscape, looking for the fresh green grass that follows the first rains – and to give birth to their young.

Serian’s Serengeti South strikes the perfect balance between colonial camping style, and elegant accents of comfort – home away from home, in the form of 6 spacious, lavish Meru tents. Each is complemented by tasteful décor that lends a touch of sumptuousness to the interiors. The en suite bathrooms include a bucket shower and a flushing toilet – classic safari simplicity with a nod to life’s little comforts. A communal lounge with antique sofas and elegant lit mess tent is where guests will gather in the evenings.

The cornerstone of a safari experience at Serian is that each group has their own open-top safari vehicle, and their own dedicated guide and spotter. The freedom this grants guests is key to getting the most out of your stay: go where the day takes you, be it a full day out with a picnic in the wilderness, or a lazy siesta back in camp before that ice-cold sundowner. Serian guides have an intimate familiarity with the landscape, and will translate and render it until you see it through their eyes.

Bisate Lodge is located in the natural amphitheater of an eroded volcanic cone – the word bisate means ‘pieces’ in Kinyarwanda, describing how the cone was once whole but worn away by natural erosion. The area has dramatic views of the peaks of the volcanoes Bisoke and Karisimbi rearing up through the Afro-alpine forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park. Twelve guests stay in six sumptuous en-suite rooms that maximize luxury, warmth and beautiful views while retaining environmental principles and reflecting the culture of surrounding rural Rwanda.

Bisate is within easy driving distance of Park Headquarters, from where gorilla treks depart daily. With the lodge's vision of reforestation and rehabilitation means that each guest is invited to participate in biodiversity conservation efforts, as well as engage and meet the local community – in addition to learning about and making a far-reaching positive impact on an iconic endangered species: the mountain gorilla.

The main attraction of Bistate is seeing the magnificent Mountain Gorilla - perhaps one of the most dramatic, thrilling and poignant wildlife experiences possible. There are, however, a myriad of other excursions on offer, including treks to see the fascinating Golden Monkeys, which are found in the bamboo forests on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains. Walks on the extensive property offer birding, great views of the surrounding area and participation in the Mango reforestation program.
