Many of our best memories are all about the excitement of going on safari as children, and later on, of rediscovering those feelings when we take our own youngsters into Africa’s wild places. This self-contained private house for ten, totally designed around families, is charm itself, and set plum in the middle of one of Serengeti’s richest mammal habitats. Solitary under huge skies and amidst the great grassland plains, it grants complete freedom from other people and schedules. It’s also excitement-central: a lively base for expertly guided forays into the bush: scouting buffalo, elephants, lion, crocodiles, and the famous wildebeest river crossings. Nomad founder, Mkombe Mniko, was a guide who cherished this area and connected strongly with children and their parents.
Beautifully styled, the house has a fresh, contemporary feel. What we particularly love about it is that while it looks great, it is still somewhere you can completely relax in. The house is fully self-contained with four en suite bedrooms that have been designed with families in mind. The house can sleep a total of 4 adults and 6 children comfortably, and there is no minimum age. There are additional cots, high chairs and car-seats provided for the little ones. Each day, meals are planned with the in-house chef, allowing for lots of flexibility and plenty of choice from a menu loaded with fresh produce, home-baking and delicious flavors. The house has a private dining room and lounge in addition to outside chill-out areas, a plunge pool and larger swimming pool and magnificent views across the Northern Serengeti.

In the middle of the desert you will discover the intriguingly named Planet Baobab, the baobab capital of the World, where the average age of each tree is more than 4000 years, and the boundless lunar landscape of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans are the size of Switzerland! This is a quirky place in a quirky part of the world, where we live cheek to tusk with old elephants, sleep in Bakalanga Huts with afro-chic interiors, swim in the largest, coolest pool in the Kalahari, eat the finest pan-African cuisine, and have a beer with hunters, vagabonds, travelers, and locals in the funkiest bar in Africa.
This three day, two night experience starts off with a guided stroll through the surrounding baobab forest, while he explains the local ecology, geology and, of course, the unique biology of the baobabs, which are in fact, not trees but, the largest succulent in the world. Enjoy a flaming Botswana sunset with a cool drink over a campfire as your guide explains the fascinating geological origins of the Makgadikgadi, which was once the largest body of freshwater. The next day starts early, before sunrise, as you head off past the lonely baobab sentinels into the Ntwetwe Salt Pan. Explore the surrounding area, in search of uniquely adapted desert species such as bat eared foxes, springbuck, kori bustards, and some of the Kalahari’s most fascinating inhabitants, the meerkats. Due to an ongoing habituation, you are able to get up close and personal with the charming creatures. e. On chilly mornings, you might well find a meerkat snuggling up to you for warmth. Or, in the absence of a termite mound or tree, using your head as a sentry lookout post. On your last day you spend a final morning relaxing in this truly special place before departing for your next adventure.
