If one is wanting to stay within the Mara Reserve this is the perfect location right across from the salt lick and near a river crossing. Great to pair this camp with another camp in a private concession. Amazing guides and staff. We love that each set of guests are given a private vehicle and guide but that definitely adds to the costs.

The old adage “Location, Location, Location” surpasses all – Nkorombo has it in spades! The Masai Mara made famous by the BBC’s “Big Cat Diaries” and more recently Disney’s “African Cats” is the predators’ prime real estate. Secreted away amongst a stand of wild olive and orange croton Alex Walker’s Nkorombo camp flanks a lively salt lick. A refuge for Black Rhino, Lion and Leopard cast about stalking a lavish overabundance of plucky prey.

This snug little bush camp is chock-full of singular character. Five tents command a view over the rushing Mara River, at once bursting with laughing hippo and languorous crocodile. True to its unpretentious origins, camp life is low-key and tranquil. The mess is furnished with candelabras, trunks, tables, Lamu beds, soft cushions and chairs. Meals are often served in different locations throughout the camp and dinner is most often concluded around a roaring campfire that serves as a focal point in colder evenings. The spacious “Selous Style” tents are simply furnished in traditional safari style with single cots and carpets. The en suite bathrooms blend wilderness and luxury, with flush toilets and bucket showers.

Activities include privately guided twice daily wildlife drives and hot air balloon safaris over the plains (extra cost). Around the river bend on the Mara River is one of the wildebeest river-crossing points – a prime spot between July and November.
