Located near the entrance gate to Sossusvlei, Sossus Oasis is a true refreshment oasis in the heart of the Namib Desert. Nestled under centuries old thorn trees, Desert Camp has an unsurpassed 360 degrees view over the desert landscape and surrounding mountains. The Sossus Oasis Camp Site offers 12 shaded individual sites in a clean, tidy and well-kept environment. Each site has its own toilet, basin, hot/cold shower, barbecue, kitchen wash-up facility and electricity. While at Sossus Oasis, guests will be wild camping. “Wild camping” means that a camp is set up in the bush/desert where no facilities whatsoever exist. All meals are prepared on an open fire and 2.5m dome tents with a bedroll and sleeping bag are used for accommodation. You can enjoy the magnificent views from your paved veranda or relax in the sparkling pool situated in the center of the campsite.
The Sossusvlei area is characterized by high sand dunes of vivid pink-to-orange color, an indication of a high concentration of iron in the sand and consequent oxidation processes. While in the area you will visit the Sesriem Canyon. This canyon has been shaped over millions of years and is one of the only places in the region that holds water year round. You will also visit and climb the famed Dune 45. From the top climbers have an incredible panoramic view of Dune Valley. In the morning and evening light the floor of the pan has been described as a “moonscape” and is truly a sight to behold.
