We think Dhow Palace offers good value and a good central location in Stone Town. This hotel, while not a luxury property, offers some authentic Zanzibari style as a former Sheik’s mansion.
~ Mango Opinion
Dhow Palace Hotel was originally the home of a rich merchant, Sheikh bin Mujbia. Bin Mujbia and his descendants kept the building for more than three centuries before it was sold. The Dhow Palace building, being right in the heart of the stone town, has borne witness to many events taking place in Zanzibar.
Now a comfortable and reasonably authentic hotel, its 30 self-contained and spacious rooms are furnished with traditional Sultan-size four-poster beds. All rooms are comfortably equipped, and tastefully appointed with Zanzibari artifacts. All rooms have large balconies overlooking an attractive and cool central courtyard. The lounge has an impressive selection of antique ornaments and furniture, and adds to the relaxed ambiance.
This creates a tranquil atmosphere, making the Dhow Palace a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town and one of the most popular hotels in Zanzibar. You can explore and photograph the harbor, mosques and narrow streets of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Among the many interesting sites of Stone Town are the Palace Museum, the Old Fort, the Slave market, the House of Wonders and the Hamamni Baths.
