In 1896 the government of what was then German South-West Africa built Fort Sesfontein (six fountains) as a checkpoint for keeping in check cattle disease, illegal hunting and arms smuggling. The Fort was abandoned in 1914 and only ruins and a small army cemetery still stood witness to the former presence of troops in Sesfontein.

Today, more than 100 years after the original establishment of the Sesfontein station, the Fort has acquired a second lease of life after being tastefully restored as a comfortable lodge for tourists on individual holidays. The use of building materials characteristic for the region are clay walls, stone floors and wooden lining convey a very special and original atmosphere.

The lodge offers a pleasant atmosphere with hot dry days and cool nights. After the adventures of the day and the culinary delights of the evening, you will enjoy a relaxing night below the Southern Cross and a fascinating star-studded sky. Fort Sesfontein is an oasis in the Namibian wilderness.

The Fort offers comfortable double bedrooms and family units, all including bathroom and air conditioning.

The Fort is unlike any other, the only one of its kind in Namibia. It is built in exactly the right spot to give guests probably one of the best sunset views in the whole of Namibia - overlooking the beautiful scarceness of the Etosha Pans, decorated only with its wild animals and hundreds of Camel Thorn trees.

Upon arriving at The Fort, you will be received by friendly staff, and massive raw walls, stunning stone cladded features and a huge tower with the views toward Etosha and Fisher's Pan. The Fort will surprise you at every corner; a classical African feel combined with a touch of Moroccan and Indian flavors, characterized by a selection of the most beautiful antique windows and doors.

The Fort consists of 11 mini Suites and 1 honeymoon Suite, all situated adjacent to the Main Fort extending on both sides to the south and the north. Every mini Suite is completely private and about 50 meters apart from one another and is equipped with a bar fridge, and an air cooling system for those warmer days. The spacious bathroom has both an inside shower as well as an outside shower area. From every area of the room, wooden decks lead you towards the outside seating area and sun loungers for just relaxing and enjoying the extraordinary view.
