Adley House in Oudtshoorn is a Victorian home built in 1905 by Sidney Herbert Adley during the Ostrich Feather Boom. It has 14 en-suite, individually decorated rooms that offer a quiet retreat with modern conveniences. Relax by the pools to soak up the sun and snuggle up to log fires in the winter. The grounds cover a 5000 acre expanse and harbor a beautifully kept evergreen garden that is lovely to stroll through. The owner Hilda bakes fresh bread or 'Vetkoek' every morning - and in the evening have a delicous four course meal of traditional South African style, including the speciality Ostrich steaks from the braai (barbecue).
There are many interesting places to see nearby. Delve into the Cango Caves, a subterranean wonderland of mysterious and breathtaking limestone formations in a wide variety of natural colors. Ostrich farms in the area offer a quirky and unique experience. Waterfalls abound in the surrounding Swartberg, Outeniqua, Kamanassie mountain ranges, and there are two beautiful ones nearby called the Vrede and Meiringspoort Falls.
