In the heart of Tigrai, the northern region of Ethiopia, lies a special accommodation: the Gheralta Lodge near Hawzen town. Gheralta area, with its unique chain of mountains, is the home of the rock churches, some famous for their architecture, ancient paintings and manuscripts and others known for their magnificent view.
The layout of the lodge was built to minimally impact with the rare natural beauty of this African landscape. The lodge is made from local materials traditionally used by the farmers of the Tigrai region: stone walls, wooden ceilings, thatched or stone-made roofs. The internal finishing are modern and functional.
While staying at the lodge you can visit the many rockhewn churches via easy walks or with difficult rocky paths. If you want to relax, you can take a walk around the lodge grounds, with a scenic view of the mountains. A short walk from the lodge is the Tekla Haymanot church you can take part in colorful religious ceremonies and visit the ancient zone, carved in the 13th century.

Set in the heart of Africa’s Great Plains in Kenya, the Masai Mara boasts 1,672 sq. kilometers of unspoiled wilderness. It offers the best game and bird-viewing not only in Kenya, but anywhere in Africa. The views across the rolling golden grasslands studded with acacia trees, rivers and forests are dazzling, the sense of space overwhelming. Throughout the year the Masai Mara is a place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of color and life.
Most stunning of all are the months between July and October, when the savannah teems with animals during the Great Wildebeest Migration.
